James "Doug"
Doran was called home on Nov. 1, 2015 to celebrate his 69th
birthday with the Lord, after a short stay at Thomas Memorial
Hospital.
Doug was a lifelong resident of Charleston until he moved to
Nitro three-and-a-half years ago. He was a graduate of Stonewall
Jackson High School and the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. He was
a longtime employee of DuPont in Belle. He loved life, family,
friends and cars. His greatest passion was racing cars,
especially Corvettes. He gave his all, no matter what!
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Douglas and
Vivian Doran; his paternal grandfather, James H. Doran; his
maternal grandparents, Albert and Maggie Burdette; and his Aunt
Dorothy.
Left to cherish his memory are his companion, Patricia Allen;
her children, Chris Allen and Heather (Joey) Markham;
grandchildren, Tristan Nogoda, Izabella Allen, Zimeera Johnson
and Jaxson Markham, who lovingly called him "Pops"; and a
multitude of friends. Doug is also survived and will be greatly
missed by his loving canine buddy, Jupiter.
A memorial service to celebrate Doug's life will be held at 2
p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Cooke Funeral Home, 2002 20th St.,
Nitro, with Pastor Delbert Hawley officiating. The family will
receive friends one hour prior to the service. Honoring Doug's
wishes, he will be cremated.
Special thanks to Gregg Swagger and Joyce Grigsby for all the
help and love and to the doctors and nurses in ICU and PCU at
Thomas Memorial Hospital.
